I'm 22m and sometimes I feel like I already missed my entire youth. The worst part isn't seeing people my age doing better than me. It's realizing that a few random photos on someone's Instagram contain more memories, experiences and actual living than the last several years of my life. A night out with friends. A weekend trip. A stupid group photo. To most people it's nothing. To me it feels like proof that everyone else was living while I was just trying to get through the day. I never had a father. I never really had a mother who made me feel loved, safe or important either. Most of my life was spent alone. Not introverted alone. Actually alone. After enough years, loneliness stops feeling like a situation and starts feeling like part of who you are. ADHD only makes it worse. I replay conversations for days. I obsess over mistakes.
