Two announcements landed within a day of each other this week, and I can’t stop thinking about them as a developer.

Anthropic said on Sunday that it would commit 5% of its shares to a new “public benefit” fund. Musk then replied that the shares should go directly to the public, and on Monday he pledged to give every American child one share of SpaceX next year. The fund could support charities or make direct payments to specific groups, including workers whose jobs are disrupted by AI. Anthropic also says it has already committed $200m to studying and addressing the technology’s impact on employment.
