I’ve been in my current role for about 7 months, but have worked in as a contractor role for two other departments in the same company prior to this. Bout a year an 7 months with this company with growing responsibilities over my 2 contract roles and current one. On a side note, every department in this fairly large company is pretty siloed.

I’m finding that my current department is just not a good fit for me. Another department posted a similar job to my current one that I am interested in. At least in terms of responsibilities, the one specific responsibility that is giving me a lot of grief in my current role is not on the job opening. There other responsibilities that suck in the other job posting, but those ones are ones that I have worked with and find very much tolerable.

I don’t want to apply internally yet, as I don’t want to end up trading a shit job for another shit job. How do I go about making a cold connection with someone in that department to at least talk about it?…
