Students from Central Oregon Community College’s Culinary Institute opened their bakery kiosk earlier this month and expect to sell out every Friday morning through Dec. 4.

Students in the two-year baking and pastry program showcase their learned skills at the Bend bakery. It is part of a course that places students in a retail setting to practice baking for the public, production and customer service.

Class meets Thursdays and Fridays, according to Molly Nickols, a second-year culinary student. Students bake muffins and croissants Thursdays and bake all other pastries and breads Fridays.

“We refresh all of the things on Friday morning too. We’re here at like 6 a.m. working till like 11:20,” Nickols said. “It’s a really good experience. And then it leads you into getting a good job in the industry.…
