Google DeepMind released Genie 4 today (October 27) as a research preview for trusted testers — its newest world model, and the successor to Genie 3 from a little over a year ago. The headline features are easy to list: the most photorealistic interactive worlds DeepMind has shown, native real-time audio (ambient sound, music, and dialogue generated with the world, not added after), and mid-simulation steering — you can type a prompt while a scene is running to change the weather, move the camera, or add a person, and the world adapts. TechCrunch reports it can hold a consistent scene for up to two minutes, double Genie 3's limit.
I think the graphics are the least interesting part of this launch. The interesting part is the architecture — because Genie 4 is not really one model anymore.
