Handling sensitive PDF documents—tax filings, signed NDAs, financial contracts, and ID scans—has long posed a fundamental privacy dilemma on the modern web. The typical online PDF utility requires you to upload megabytes of sensitive documents to an obscure third-party cloud server, process them on backend infrastructure, and download the output. Even with promises of "files deleted after 1 hour," your unencrypted document traverses network hops and rests in server memory.

When architecting PDFBolt , our core thesis was simple: Can we execute 100% of PDF processing entirely inside client-side browser RAM using WebAssembly and modern web APIs, with zero bytes uploaded to any backend?

Here is the technical blueprint of how we solved this challenge, the performance hurdles we faced, and the architectural decisions behind building a private, zero-upload PDF engine.
