And this year, the top trending spring break destination fits the bill perfectly. Hilo, Hawaii on the Big Island has been a top pick for many spring travelers, according to Kayak. The booking company found that this spring break, flight searches to Hilo are up 60 percent and that airfare is down 26 percent, when compared to last year. An average, roundtrip economy flight over spring break is $503, according to Kayak. In addition to lower priced flights, Hilo has that “if you know, you know” feel. It is quieter and less busy than Kailua-Kona on the western side of the island and was included in Kayak’s 2026 ‘What the Future’ Report, which shares trends and destinations that will define the year.
