8-year-old boy hospitalized after bite from beaver at Mahwah park

An eight-year-old boy was attacked by a beaver while fishing at Lake Henry in Continental Soldiers Park, Mahwah, New Jersey , on Sunday evening.

The beaver charged the boy, who tripped, and was bitten on his upper thigh before a family friend intervened.

The boy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York , for treatment following the incident.

Animal control officers captured the beaver, which was showing signs of illness, for rabies testing.

The Township of Mahwah confirmed on Tuesday that the beaver tested positive for rabies, prompting a public health warning for anyone who had contact with the animal.
