I just got a quote from a contractor and he’s requesting that I pay 1/3 as a deposit before the work starts two months from now, 1/3 after the completion of the first day of work, and the final third when the job is finished. I’m just wondering if this is considered normal/standard practice to collect the payment in this way? Particularly the third upfront before any work will even start for a couple months? I’m located in Western Pennsylvania if that helps. Quote includes flat garage roof replacement, a couple of windows and gutter work. Thanks in advance! Edit to add: It sounds like collecting 1/3 as a deposit is fairly standard and especially in Pennsylvania. Perhaps the point of contention then is this contactor's desire to collect another 1/3 on the first day of work (maybe to cover materials?) rather than just collect the remaining 2/3 at the completion of the job? submitted by /u/Own_Calligrapher5469 [link] [comments]
