I'm mid-career, spent 20+ years building up a reputation for execution. If something was broken, I fixed it. If hours were needed, I worked them.
Over the last 18 months, that trade feels broken. The sheer volume of manual coordination, documentation, and operational troubleshooting I used to pride myself on doesn't seem to hold value anymore. If anything, being the person who "just gets things done" has pigeonholed me into operational maintenance while newer/younger roles move around the strategic edges.
For those with 15-20+ years of experience: how are you actively shifting your work away from doing the labour to owning the outcome, especially now that tools are commoditising the processing work?
