side of my house next to where to the garage is, i want to put in a carport. it could be freestanding and bolted to footers, but it would generally be better if the house side of it is directly attached to the house.

I would be bringing in a more experienced hand to help me with this but want to get a better understanding myself.

From my general understanding.... i would be removing one row of the siding, attaching a ledger, Z flashing on top, then vinyl J channel underneath and cut and put back any gapped section with the removed siding row? I'm sure i'm missing something...

The style of roof for the carport will likely be the plastic corrugated stuff, and i havent found any examples of it being used against vinyl siding.
