Microservices make it easier to release and scale individual services, but they also create more HTTP entry points, routing paths, and trust boundaries. A WAF can provide a consistent inspection layer at the edge while services remain independently deployable. The key is to design the protection path around public traffic, service ownership, and observability rather than placing one generic rule set in front of everything.

SafeLine is a self-hosted web application firewall that works as an HTTP or HTTPS reverse proxy. It receives traffic for an original application, filters malicious requests, and forwards safe traffic upstream. The official application guide describes this flow and the required Domain, Port, SSL, and Upstream settings: https://docs.waf.chaitin.com/en/GetStarted/AddApplication . In a microservices environment, this model can be applied to the public gateways or ingress endpoints that route requests to internal services.
