Santosh, 60, who runs a tea and samosa pushcart in a Greater Noida village, had deposited Rs 1.29 crore in her Punjab National Bank (PNB) account as compensation for land acquired for the Jewar Airport project. Now, she claimed, Rs 1.18 crore has gone missing from the account.

She is among 25 people who have complained to the police about large sums of money allegedly going missing from their accounts at the bank’s Greater Noida branch, officers said.

Sitting outside the bank branch on Wednesday with her sister, both residents of Bironda village, Santosh said the amount was all her savings. “On Tuesday, my son had come to withdraw some money when he was told that there was nothing left,” she claimed. She had to be admitted to a nearby hospital after her blood pressure fluctuated.

Police said an FIR has been registered on charges of criminal breach of trust against Punjab National Bank Sector PI-1 employees.…
