We - a Danish family of four - have been living in the US since 2015. Our youngest (13) was 1.5 when we moved and our oldest (16) was just about to turn five. We have lived in two different locations in the US. Needless to say, this is all they’ve known when it comes to “growing up”.

For various reasons we have decided to move back home when our oldest finishes high school in about a year and a half. Probably to Denmark, but definitely Europe.

We haven’t told our kids this yet, but we will soon, so they have a chance to get used to the thought (even if just a little) and I anticipate a lot of emotions, understandably. I just really want to be as prepared as possible to “catch” both kids and their feelings and all the anger, sadness, distress, uncertainty etc that will undoubtedly follow.…
