Aldo Sohm is best known for his work with wine. As wine director of New York City’s three-Michelin-starred Le Bernardin , the Austrian-born sommelier oversees one of the city’s most prestigious wine programs. Named Best Sommelier in the World in 2008, Sohm has also established himself as a winemaker in his native Austria. Now, he’s bringing that expertise to an entirely different craft: mezcal .
Sohm has partnered with Agua Mágica and fifth-generation maestro mezcalero Don Rogelio Juan Hernández to create Reposado Edición Limitada , a small-batch mezcal aged in Austrian dessert wine barrels. The collaboration brings Sohm’s knowledge of wine and oak aging to a spirit rooted in generations of Oaxacan tradition.
