The Great American State Fair has hit another hurdle before opening day, this time from the states themselves. Officials in Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Oregon have said they will not officially send delegations to the event, while Washington remains uncommitted. While organizers continue to move forward with construction and insist every state and territory will ultimately be represented, the latest withdrawals add to a growing list of complications that have followed the fair in recent weeks. According to state officials, cost was a major factor behind several of the decisions. Oregon cited both expenses and concerns about the event’s direction.
