Recorded at jazz clubs in New York and Philadelphia between 1961 and 1965 by saxophonist Frank Tiberi, the Tiberi Tapes have long been relegated to a private collection. But as part of a year-long celebration of Coltrane’s 100th birthday in September, the set will land on Impulse! as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18, ahead of a wider release this September. To celebrate the centennial, Impulse! has also shared a new video for the A Love Supreme opener “Acknowledgement.” Directed by Kamasi Washington and Mitski collaborator AG Rojas, it features a faithful recreation of New Jersey’s Van Gelder Studios on the day A Love Supreme was recorded there.
