I'm 51 and recently divorced. My work provides 187k of life insurance for free (one year salary), and I'm paying $99.25 per month for an additional 250k. I since I opted in the first year it was offered, I did not have to provide evidence of insurability. Given my weight and cholesterol, it seems unlikely I could replace that coverage today.
Given that there will be no need to replace my income, it feels smarter to put that 100 dollars into my retirement. Does that sound right?
I do not have any children. My plan is to leave half my estate to my nephew, and the other half to my stepdaughter. The house is not paid off, but there is only about 200k remaining with 13 years left on the mortgage).
