Does the absence of synapse pruning give us any sort of advantage?

So I've heard that allegedly autistic people don't undergo synapse pruning, which is a process that occurs during adolescence where our brain removes weak/unused neural connections. This is the reason why learning a new language is significantly harder for an adult than it is for a child. My question is: do I understand correctly that it means that we have less processing power, but learn and memorise new things better than other people? Or am I getting this totally wrong? I would love someone with high expertise to explain this to me..
