A routine paddleboarding session off the coast of Santa Barbara turned into a close encounter with one of the ocean's most feared predators—though the people in the water had no idea it was happening at the time. Drone footage recently captured a large great white shark swimming near 17-year-old Kayla Ross and her uncle as the pair paddled along the California coastline. From above, the shark can be seen moving through the water alarmingly close to the paddleboard, prompting local newscasters to describe the encounter as "way too close for comfort." Ross, however, wasn't worried in the moment because she never saw the shark. "Sharks are my favorite animal," she said after the footage surfaced.
