Anthropic is giving Agent Skills, the SKILL.md format it built to teach AI agents specific jobs, to the Agentic AI Foundation, the Linux Foundation group that already looks after the Model Context Protocol. More than 70 agent platforms have integrated the standard so far, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code among them, the company said Thursday.

The transfer includes the Agent Skills name and logo along with the project’s GitHub organization and the agentskills.io domain. Developers can keep using the standard, or contribute to it, without joining the AAIF, Anthropic said in its announcement . Engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and other companies will maintain it as individuals, with David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag as lead maintainers.
