Trying to bridge from work to disability to retirement.

I have an odd IRA question with early retirement.

I'm going to need to retire from my current job at the age of 60. I have a lot of chronic medical issues that should allow me to receive SSDI.

My conditions include things like, Kidney failure, paraplegia, osteomyelitis, etc. They are all serious but usually don't require much treatment as there isn't much that can be done. But I'm usually not up for working 8 hours a day. Although my job isn't hard, I just want to relax some before I die.

Usually it takes months or years to get SSDI approval sometimes so I was wondering if I can convert my work 401k into a traditional IRA and just draw on that if needed to bridge that period.

I have about 1mil available and since I have no debt, no kids, wife, and my house is paid off.

COBRA Insurance would be about 1k a month until I get SSDI.

All my other expenses come to 20k a year.

Does this make sense?
