I am in the first semester of a 3 year nurse practitioner program. The entire program will cost $90,000. I am unsure if I should pay for school out of pocket as I attend, or if I should take out student loans and apply for debt relief programs after I graduate.
For reference, I am working full time as a registered nurse and make $65,000 after taxes.
I live with my family and luckily do not have to pay rent. So, paying off school as I attend is feasible.
However, I do see that there are a lot of debt relief opportunities for my field after I graduate, and this looks enticing as I want to save as much as possible in hopes of one day buying a home.
If I do take out loans, my federal interest rate would be about 8% (in simple daily interest)
Would it be smarter to take out loans and invest my money over the next 3 years in hopes of getting debt relief in the future? Or should I bite the bullet and pay off school as I attend?
